Sanctuary at Adriatica, McKinney | Bill Dotson
May 8 @ 7:00 am - 8:30 am
Bill has led a very successful and rewarding life. Married to Joanne for 60 years they have two daughters and five grandchildren. Bill’s greatest joy comes from the fact that his first grandson just married a strong believer and that his whole family is walking in the truth.
After relocating to Dallas from Nashville in 1970 Bill owned and managed several commercial real estate development firms. Bill retired from the business world nine years ago and has focused his energy and attention on his passion that was birthed by a vision from God in 1986. That vision led to what eventually became a spiritual house in the commercial real estate world – DREM – Dallas Real Estate Ministries. About ten years ago, his position was transferred to Jason Claunch and the ministry is thriving after 33 years.
While on the Board of Mercy Street Dallas Bill was called to see and assist children without fathers trapped in poverty and welfare. With 49 years of teaching the word of God in prisons, Dallas County Juvenile Center and Union Gospel Mission (men’s homeless shelter) Bill experienced the devastation of the absentee father, or an abusive one. Twenty-eight years ago, God placed another vision on his mind and heart; From Faith to Faith. An acronym for ‘fathers absent in the home to fathers abiding in the home’. As Bill was entering retirement from real estate nine years ago, God challenged Bill to write a book under his Spirit’s leading of the same title. He accepted, self-published the book, and was encouraged to prepare a study guide and teach the curriculum.
Today, Abiding Fathers is a 501c3 ministry of which Bill is the Ex. Director. All the Biblically based curriculum and videography has been translated into Spanish. God just added a Hispanic Director and the Spanish demand is already spreading across the Metroplex, California, internationally to Cuba, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Ecuador and Spain.
Bill’s experience has convinced him that the number one issue in America today is the absentee father. Absent physically, emotionally and spiritually. Children are growing up without maybe the most important person in their life. So much damage as a result of absent or abusive fathers. The mission God has given us is to “encourage, equip and engage men in developing their God-ordained leadership role as fathers in order to make disciples for the gospel of Jesus Christ”. Simply, to assist them to “become the dad…God wants them to be”.
The ministry has evolved over these past few years into a significant part of God’s movement of fatherhood. “To turn the hearts of fathers to the children, and the hearts of children to their fathers.” The four current venues of the ministry are prisons, the marketplace, Fathers Forums and bethedadmovement.com. In addition to the formation of Padre de Corazon, they have formed Women’s Heart Initiative to come alongside the dads and their husbands. And they have been invited to partner with YoungLives to help impact the fathers of the children of these teenage moms.
Their mission statement is: “Biblically teaching men that God has given fathers the responsibility and authority to disciple their wife, children and future generations; and to know the consequences of accepting or rejecting this challenge.”
It should be noted that in his bio Bill referred to a Mr. John Maisel who he met in 1974. “No man has impacted or challenged me more than John. Numerous trips to Cuba, one to India and once to Romania when he was engaged with Eastern European Seminary; all a result of my relationship with him. These trips and his ‘All In’ obedience changed my life.”
